On the 19th of February 2022, Dzuka Africa held the first partial Kids Coding Graduation Ceremony under the Digital and Entrepreneurship Skills Training Program called ‘Luntha ndi Chuma’ at Dzuka Africa StartUp Hub in Blantyre. The hub graduated 15 kids under the Blantyre District Zone Area, particularly the Chilomoni Station where it operates.
Mrs. Beatrice Kachepa of the Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC) was the Guest of Honor at the function. In the course of the function, Mrs. Kachepa gave a brief introduction of Digital Malawi Project-Phase 1 with a focus on Digital Skills and Innovations. She also presided over the presentation of certificate awards for Kids Coding Cohort before touring class sessions at the hub where she interacted with the graduands to appreciate their knowledge and skills gained during the pedagogical program.
The graduated kids had been equipped with the basics of IT fundamentals and Coding which were facilitated by using Scratch Tool, the free visual programming language. The programming language was designed to actuate creative capacity of these past computing novices (without much programming experience); and it also enabled them to make multimedia products, just to mention a few.
Dzuka Africa is one of the hubs that falls under Digital Malawi Project, established to empower youth and women with life and professional skills so that they are employable for entry level jobs and equally build resilient and sustainable businesses through Dzuka Africa’s programs namely Internship program, Entrepreneurship programs and Mentorship program.
The hub also takes a central role of nurturing the kids by equipping them with basics of IT fundamentals.
The organization has scheduled to hold its second partial Kids Coding Cohort Graduation Ceremony on the 26th of February 2022 which will constitute kids from Chilobwe Station.
