The Department of eGovernment in the Ministry of Information and Digitalization, in collaboration with the Public Private Partnership Commission (PPPC), held the inaugural Project Technical Committee (PTC) meeting for the Digital Malawi Acceleration Project (DMAP) in Mangochi.
The PTC, which comprises various common IT heads from various government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), has been established to ensure technical excellence and effective implementation of DMAP components.
Speaking during the meeting, Principal Secretary for eGovernment, Stephen Mjuweni, underscored the significance of the meeting, noting that it brought together invaluable ICT expertise and insights vital for shaping the project’s direction.

He described DMAP as a key catalyst for the country’s digital transformation, aligning with the aspirations outlined in Malawi 2063.
In his presentation on the project’s scope, Senior Deputy Director for eGovernment, Ackim Sanuka, said the project will install 2,000 km of fiber-optic cables and improve connectivity across 2,500 institutions, including 2,000 schools and 500 government offices.

He further highlighted that the project will also deliver digital skills training to 10,000 Malawians, with women comprising half of the participants, to promote digital literacy and inclusivity across the workforce.
Adding to the outlined initiatives, Project Manager for DMAP, Chimwemwe Matemba, said the project will support the transition to a next-generation, cost-effective digital ID and develop e-Signature capabilities for secure e-services.
Among others, participants discussed strategies for enhancing the government’s email system — a platform collectively funded and developed under the project — to ensure that all civil servants fully benefit from the initiative.
